Boonsboro High Junior Joins Local Performing Arts Community

Indira Aranha, a junior at Boonsboro High School, loves to play.

Although she describes herself as “shy,” Indira enjoys singing and acting.

A new member of Authentic community theater in Hagerstown, Indira is getting ready for a show next month.

“I just started,” she said. “We have a (show) in December, and it’s really cool.”

The show, on which Indira could share some details, is slated for some time after Christmas. It’s not related to the holidays, she said.

Active in the Boonsboro High Theater Club, live performances have been temporarily put on hold as renovations are made to the auditorium.

“We haven’t done that since COVID either,” she said, referring to the coronavirus pandemic.

Indira was also recently named by her peers as Student of the Month for October.

The 16-year-old said she felt “really good” to receive the honor.

“I have to have had an impact on someone’s life for them to choose me,” said the junior. “It really feels good. It came as a surprise.

16-year-old Indira Aranha is a student at Boonsboro High School. She was named student of the month for October.

“I’m a little shy, but I opened up and became more friendly,” she said. “It’s still a work in progress, but it’s progressing.”

The student of the month for November will be announced at the end of the month. The school’s student government oversees the program, which also includes a student-of-the-month in senior, sophomore, and first year classes.

Academically, Indira follows a curriculum that includes Algebra, World History of Advanced Placement (AP), AP Literature, and Health and Life Skills.

Next semester, she plans to take anatomy classes.

She also takes the theater and the honors in chorus.

“The chorus is every day for an hour,” she said. “We learn all the songs. We have fun.”

She is also a member of the National Honor Society.

Indira is also active in her youth group at First Christian Church in Hagerstown.

She is also part of the Boy Scout Troop 2119 in Sharpsburg.

Indira leads the all-female cast, which she says is really fun.

“I learned skills in the outdoors,” she said. “It has taught me great leadership skills as a troop leader. It will definitely help me in the future.”

A resident of Hagerstown, Indira is the daughter of Erica and Raoul Aranha.

She has a 13-year-old sister, Ava, an eighth grade student at Boonsboro Middle School.
