Downtown Painesville Organization appoints new executive director – News-Herald

The Downtown Painesville Organization has named Nikki Matala as its new executive director.

“I was inspired by the entrepreneurial spirit in the area, especially in Painesville,” Matala said. “There is a warm, genuine connection with the people of this city and they want to see themselves succeed. That’s why the DPO exists so we can host events that bring people into town to see what we’ve got.

Matala has years of experience in various careers in nonprofit leadership marketing and more, but is perhaps best known for her time as Executive Director of the Willoughby Area Chamber of Commerce.

She also has extensive experience in volunteer work throughout Northeast Ohio.

Matala said she is happy to work in conjunction with the City of Painesville, the DPO, local businesses and the community as a whole. She said she was thrilled to be part of a forward-looking community driven by its historic past.

Matala says she wants to work in tandem with the town and community members to grow other local businesses and promote the values they stand for.

“Everyone has a unique little twist on what they can do, they have a talent or time to help out,” she said. “It’s a great place, we have a great community and we would love for more people to participate. Whether you grew up here, lived here, went to school here, I find the common theme is love and respect for the town of Painesville and recognition of its historical significance, it’s just a great place and we want to be welcoming to everyone.

Matala hopes to bring something new to the DPO and hopes to maintain its tradition of working with the community.

The next DPO event will be the Founders Day Breakfast scheduled for 8 a.m. on April 30.
