In response to the ongoing effects of the pandemic on the theater industry, DC-based singer/songwriter Juliet Lloyd has released a new single and music video, “Ghost Light,” featuring moving lyrics about surviving the lockdown:
We said goodbye
not knowing when the next hello would come
We are all frozen
wait in the wingsI will always be there
I will always be there
Now available on all streaming platforms, “Ghost Light” is a shimmering piano-driven pop/rock track that captures both the strangeness of an empty theater and the hope that life will return to normal.
“I loved the symbolism of the ghost light,” Lloyd said. “At the start of the pandemic, there were images of all the scenes that suddenly went dark with just the ghost light on. It’s this constant, reassuring presence, and for me, such a sign that whatever happens, the arts will come back. I wanted to write an anthem for all the artists I know who have been so affected since 2020.”
Lloyd will donate 100% of the single’s streaming revenue to The Theater Lab, the DC area’s largest theater education organization, which benefits nearly 3,000 students each year. She has been a longtime student of the organization, which is currently celebrating its 30th anniversary, and joined its board in 2021.
“Theatre Lab has transformed my life as a performer and – like all arts organizations – they have been deeply affected by the pandemic,” Lloyd said. “Despite the challenges of the past two years, they have continued to transform lives through theater education and I can think of no better purpose for ‘Ghost Light’ than to support the continued resilience of the arts.”
Lloyd was recently announced as a 2022 finalist for the Bernard/Ebb Songwriting Awards, an annual competition honoring the best songwriters in the DC area. In 2021, Lloyd performed over 100 shows in the region. His second full album, Leave the light on, featured five songs that have been featured on TV shows, including The real world, the hills, and hard love, and added in rotation to over 175 radio stations across the country.
LYRICS OF “GHOST LIGHT”:
time capsule
echoes of an unknown song
We said goodbye
not knowing when the next hello would come
We are all frozen
wait in the wingsI will always be there
I will always be there
ghost light
I will always be there
I will always be there
ghost lightWould it be different
if we knew this would be our last call
Now all we have
are memories casting shadows on the wall
and we’re still frozen
wait in the wingsI will always be there
I will always be there
ghost light
I will always be there
I will always be there
ghost lightI will always be there
I will always be there
ghost light
I will always be there
I will always be there
ghost light
I will always be there
I will always be there
ghost lightand we’re still frozen
wait in the wings
