Nikki Sixx was set to launch a long-awaited play project before the COVID-19 pandemic brought everything to a screeching halt.
The Motley Crue rocker was working on a musical adaptation of his 2007 book The Heroin Diaries: a year in the life of a broken rockstar for several years. The bassist frequently mentioned the project in interviews dating back to 2012. A Broadway run had been rumored, and Sixx even posted an open casting call on social media in 2019. Now it looks like all that momentum. was arrested.
“We were close. We were already starting pre-production for the theater on this, ”Sixx explained in an interview with Nikki Omen of Canadian radio station CIFM. “The idea was to take that from city to city and connect with the recovery community and give back that way.”
Then the pandemic struck.
“[The Heroin Diaries play], obviously, got his nuts kicked straight with COVID. Like everything, including the supply chain for my two-and-a-half-year-old’s building blocks, “Sixx admitted, noting that the pandemic has” affected everything. “
The bassist was not clear as to whether his Heroin notebooks musical would be revisited now that live music and stage performances have slowly started to return. For now, it seems, Sixx is more focused on their new book, The first 21, and the upcoming Motley Crue Stadium Tour.
“We have some very, very cool things in development, let’s say. Different than anything we’ve done before,” Sixx said of the trek, which will start in June and also includes Def Leppard, Poison and Joan. Jett. “Dude, I can’t wait.
