After more than a year of having children locked at home, parents will be delighted to learn that Oceanside Theater Company (OTC), the resident professional theater company of the Historic Brooks Theatre, will reopen for its Youth Theater Arts Summer Camp the next month.

OTC will be launching Broadway By the Beach, its 2021 Summer Theater Camp featuring two 2-week camps in June and July that focus on theater skills such as singing, dancing, acting, and even poetry and choral reading for young people aged 7 to 17.

Pre-registration is open and details are available online HERE. Classes fill up quickly.

“After all this virtual school, children need hands-on learning more than ever,” said Carol Naegele, director of youth outreach at the CTO. “Our Broadway By the Beach summer camp is a next-level educational program that teaches theater skills, as well as teamwork, creativity, and the ability to increase self-confidence on stage and in life. “

Broadway Heroes and Villains

The first camp, Broadway Heroes & Villains, begins June 21 and concludes with an exciting Broadway cabaret performance on the Brooks Theater main stage at 7:30 p.m. on Friday July 2 and Saturday July 3.

Traveling on Broadway

Traveling Down Broadway is the theme for the second camp beginning July 7, with a trip down Broadway’s past and ending with a Broadway cabaret celebrating hits from the 1930s through today, including selections from Shrek and RENT.

Both camps take place Monday to Friday from 9am. at 3 p.m. at the Brooks Theatre, 217 North Coast Highway, Oceanside. Campers can register for one camp or receive a 10% discount to attend both camps. Each camp registration is limited to 30 campers.

Camp spots are filling up fast and can be reserved now with a $100 deposit and full tuition must be paid by June 1. Both Broadway cabarets are open to the public and tickets can be purchased from the Oceanside Theater Company website here.

“We are grateful to the community, our donors and patrons, and the city and county support we have received that has helped us weather the pandemic storm,” said the CTO President, John McCoy. “Even though OTC suffered a 90% loss of revenue last year, we survived and are ready to start again providing the live theatre, music and art our community sorely needs to recover from a difficult year.”
