Maria Tamburri, president of the National Organization of Italian American Women, announced the annual luncheon at the Tribeca Rooftop 360° on Thursday, May 5, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Since its founding in 1980, NOIAW has thrived in fulfilling its mission to inspire, empower and connect women through shared Italian heritage and culture. While its mission has remained unwavering, its membership, programs and accomplishments have grown and touched many people.
Now is the time to lift the curtain on NOIAW’s second act as the nonprofit emerges from the COVID-forced hiatus of live programming and, after postponing two in-person luncheons, to celebrate three major dynamic ladies of the entertainment industry.
- Patti LuPone, Tony, Grammy and Olivier award-winning actress and singer
- Gina Argento, President and CEO of Broadway Stages, Ltd.
- Angelina Fiordellisi, Executive Director of Cherry Lane Theatre, Co-Founder of the Cherry Lane Mentorship Program
The trio are recognized for their professional accomplishments and their contributions to the Italian-American community as role models for the next generation.
Joining President Tamburri in making the announcement, Donna Chirico, Luncheon Chair and NOIAW Board Secretary, said, “It is only through the education and efforts of organizations like NOIAW that insidious stereotypes about Italian Americans can be dispelled. Our honorees exemplify the best of our community and remind us of how far we’ve come since Ellis Island.”
The event begins with a networking cocktail at 11:00 a.m., followed by the awards lunch program at 12:15 p.m. Proceeds from the gala support the organization’s cultural programs, mentorship, scholarships and cultural exchange initiatives, all of which impact and change lives.
Recent past winners have included: Adriana Trigiani, best-selling author and filmmaker; Brenda Vaccaro, award-winning actress; NYC Deputy Mayor Lorraine Grillo, CNN anchor Alisyn Camerota and restaurateur, chef and cookbook author Lidia Bastianich.
