SAN RAFAEL, CA – Margie Belrose, a legend in Marin’s theater arts community, has passed away, her family announced in a Facebook post.
Founder of the Belrose Theater and the School of Dance and Performing Arts Center was 92 years old.
“It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Margie Belrose,” read the message.
Belrose died in her home of natural causes, according to an obituary written by her children and posted on Legacy.com.
“Miss Margie,” as she was affectionately known, has taught more than 6,000 students tap dancing, ballet, jazz and theater.
“In fact, her children write, it turns out that it wasn’t just the dance that Margie would end up teaching, but rather the life lessons she was instilling in her students.
“Dreaming, taking risks, daring to become all that you inspire to believe in yourself, to trust yourself, to learn to encourage yourself and, as the sign hanging above the theater doors says, to” listen to the music and dance to life. ‘”
A celebration of her life will be held at Belrose (1415 5th Ave., in San Rafael) on October 23 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. with a program at 4 p.m.
Donations can be made in Belrose’s honor by contributing to a GoFundMe that will support the nonprofit Belrose Theater Performing Arts Center that she loved.
