Despian Accession to the throne marked by Fusion Summoning!
Reruns:
Strategy Summary:
Welcome to a profile showcasing the new Dark World support cards revealed last week when paired with the Despia archetype. The Dark World archetype has been around for a while now – triggering rejections via effects, this DARK Fiends archetype relied heavily on Grapha, Dragon Lord of the Dark World to generate enough card advantage to eventually snowball and win the duel. Unfortunately, that didn’t hold up in modern play, and the Danger! The archetype has become the go-to lucky theme for many players. However, this new support gives Dark Worlds much-needed tools, such as Reign-Beaux, Supreme Overlord of the Dark World (YGOrg translation)which serves as more copies of Grapha while tutoring higher level dark world monsters when thrown and a new boss in the form of Grapha, Dragon Overlord of the Dark World (YGOrg translation). This Fusion Boss gives you the ability to change your opponent’s Spell/Trap card or activated monster effect to one that discards, effectively negating it and giving you additional Dark World benefits. The craziest support card is the new one Adherence to the world of darkness (YGOrg translation)a Fusion Quickplay spell that removes dark world materials when creating Grapha Overlord while serving as a nickname Miracle Fusion for any Fiend Fusion monster. Which is exactly what Despia Fusions are… Besides, isn’t it perfect that Despia monsters also want to be banished?
Moving on to the Despia archetype, this DARK Fairy theme goes ham with a variety of Fusion options already in their toolbox. Putting the theme together is Aluber Despia’s Jester, a level 4 that teaches any marked spell/trap when summoned. You can teach Brand opening, which can summon another Despia monster from the deck while discarding by effect. You can teach lost mark, which prevents your opponent from canceling Fusion Summons. You can teach Marked Disciplewhich allows you to disrupt monster effects when combined with Querite Despian. Or you can go with the proven Brand mergerunlocking the Fallen from Albaz fusions using materials from the Deck. Besdies Quaeritis, the Despia theme also leans heavily on Hide the Blazing Dragon, a level 8 demonic fusion that imposes an additional 600 LP on your opponent to activate cards or effects. Beyond all of that, brand support cards have grown since I last covered this archetype to now include Break the mark (YGOrg translation) for recovery and Marked banishment for recovery and potentially even more fusion summons. Take this exploratory journey into the new and improved Dark World with the help of archetype Despia!
