“Everyone is invited to put their name in the bag to share a real five-minute personal story on the theme, however you interpret it,” said organizer Jeanné Sparks.
The theme this time is habits, she noted.
On Friday, Story Slam participants will be introduced to Olympic theater arts.
Only 10 names will be drawn from the bag, to create a mix of people and experiences. These storytelling slams, which resumed in person last November, alternate between two locations each month: Olympic Theater Arts and Studio Bob, which is in downtown Port Angeles.
At the Out Loud Story Slam in December, the theme “Fight, Flight or Freeze” attracted a good turnout from new storytellers, and one of them, Malcolm Freeman, enthralled the audience with
his story about an encounter with an alligator.
“If your name is drawn, you take the stage to share,” Sparks said. “Of course the event needs an audience, and everyone is welcome to come and listen. There is no pressure to be a cashier.
Admission to Slam is $10, with advance purchase available for Friday’s event on olympictheatrearts.org under the Shows menu.
As of last Saturday, the theater no longer requires proof of vaccination or a negative PCR test to enter the building as a guest. Masking is no longer mandatory and up to the comfort level of the individual.
