Earlier this week, the World’s 50 Best organization announced its highly anticipated annual ranking of the best restaurants. And for the second year in a row, Copenhagen’s Geranium snagged a coveted top spot.
After landing second to Noma last year, the famous Danish hotspot has been named the world’s No.1 restaurant for 2022, Travel + Leisure reports.
“I wrote something in case the magic happened, and the magic did happen,” said chef Rasmus Kofoed as he accepted the award. “I remember a time when I looked in the mirror and I didn’t like and couldn’t identify with the person I saw there. My determination and curiosity to learn more every day gave me confidence, and I finally found the world I belong.”
Here are the top 10 restaurants in the world for 2022:
- Geranium—Copenhagen
- Central—Lima, Peru
- Disfrutar—Barcelona
- DiverXO—Madrid
- Pujol—Mexico City
- Asador Etxebarri—Atxondo, Spain
- A Casa do Porco—São Paulo
- Lido 84—Gardone Riviera, Italy
- Quintonil—Mexico City
- Le Calandre—Rubano, Italy
“With big dreams and strong friendships […] with burning passion and dedicated team members like everyone else in Copenhagen, Geranium became our vision to create a holistic space embracing the circle of life,” added Kofoed. “Food is a connector, uniting people from different continents, sharing culture and creativity, and I feel so grateful to be part of it.”
Atomix and Le Bernardin of New York landed in the top 50, while Single Thread of Healdsburg, Calif., also made the cut.
