Mary Immaculate College’s BA in Contemporary and Applied Theater Studies presents its summer repertoire season with two exciting and rarely seen theatrical works, taking the stage at the Lime Tree Theater for three days in early May.

The Enchantment by Victoria Benedictsson adapted by Clare Bayley
Director: Shane Hickey O’Meara
Lime Tree Theater May 4-6.
The extraordinary and haunting play by the unsung Swedish author who is said to have been a role model for Miss Julie and Hedda Gabler is performed by freshmen.
On a sunny day in Paris, famous artist and womanizer Gustave Alland visits Louise Strandberg – recovering in her brother’s studio – and effortlessly throws her under his spell. In a vain attempt to escape, she exiles herself in her hometown in the province of Sweden. But a letter propels her back to Paris and into his arms. And for a brief moment, the ecstasy is his.
Victoria Benedictsson’s play was written shortly before her suicide in 1888. This English version by Clare Bayley was first staged at the National Theater in London in July 2007.

Future Proof by Lynda Radley
Director: Ann Blake
Lime Tree Theater May 4-6.
This magical and deeply compassionate piece about the identity and capabilities of the human spirit is presented by fourth year students.
At a time when science and religion have conspired to make monster shows shameful, Robert Riley, owner of Riley’s Odditorium, is struggling to find ways to keep his business afloat. There’s no money in the coffers and they must have eaten the horse. Only the mermaid’s number attracts bettors and she just holds her breath…
Lynda Radley’s play Futureproof was first staged at Edinburgh’s Traverse Theater in August 2011, as a co-production with Dundee Rep. She won an Edinburgh Fringe First Award. The Irish premiere took place at The Everyman in June 2017 as part of the Cork Midsummer Festival.
All tickets: €15/€10 at the Limetree Theater box office – Tel 061 953 400 www.limtreetheatre.ie
