Year of Climate Action / An imagined participatory performance
Students working in collaboration with Sojourn Theater

All performances last approximately 20-30 minutes, followed by an audience discussion led by Sojourn Theater performers and Brandeis students.

Using the Office of Sustainability’s Year of Climate Action as an inspiration and frame of reference, the Department of Theater Arts will bring Sojourn Theater to Brandeis to collaborate with Brandeis students on a two-week residency from September 11-24, 2022. Students work with two artists from Sojourn Theater to create Year of Climate Action / An imagined participatory performance, Brandeis Students working in collaboration with Sojourn Theatre. The work will be created in collaboration with the artists of Sojourn Theater using a variety of techniques Sojourn Theater uses to create their signature performances using a “best practice model” for arts-based civic dialogue. . Each 20-30 minute presentation (see screenings below) will be followed by an audience discussion led by Sojourn Theater artists and Brandeis students.

living room theater, founded in 1999, is an award-winning theater company made up of 17 artists who live in 7 cities and perform together across the country. National/international tours, a body of 26 works, and a reputation for constant innovation as artists and practitioners of engagement have led to: a 2005 Ford Foundation/Americans for the Arts Exemplar Award; be regularly presented at national conferences and universities as a “best practice model” for arts-based civic dialogue; featured in recent articles by American Theater Magazine and Yale’s Theater Diary; partnerships with organizations in the non-arts sector such as city and state legislatures, social service agencies, and interdisciplinary arts centers across the country.

Friday, September 23, 7:30 p.m.
Saturday September 24, 4 p.m. & 7:30 p.m. (two performances)
All performances last approximately 20-30 minutes, followed by an audience discussion led by Sojourn Theater performers and Brandeis students.

Tickets go on sale two weeks before the first performance.
